Highlights
The earlier generation Flip phones were not that popular and there were a few major issues such as defective hinge mechanism, crease spots, very low battery and outrageous price. But the time has changed. This is the fourth generation flip phone by Samsung. There was no Galaxy Z Flip2, that’s why even though it is called the Galaxy Z Flip5, we are at fourth generation or year. The first Galaxy Z Flip was introduced back in February 2020. The hinge mechanism here is excellent, there is no big crease spot issue, the battery is great, and the pricing is much more reasonable.
So, let’s start with the battery. The capacity is 3700 mAh but you can still expect 7 to 8 hours of screen on time and between one to one and a half day backup easily. This is because we are getting a much bigger 3.4-inch Super AMOLED cover screen. Last year we had a 1.9-inch cover screen, and many didn’t like it considering the cost, including us. But now, it is adequate. You can use this 3.4 inches screen for all sorts of purposes from taking comfortable selfies with the rear cameras, making a call, watching videos, using Google Maps and so on. So, you won’t need the bigger unfolded screen all the time, which is the secret to longer battery backup along with Samsung’s fine hardware and software optimization. The phone looks pretty stylish, premium and elegant. It will definitely catch the attention of others when you move around with it.
There is Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection on the front and on the back with IPX8 water resistance. The frame is made with aluminum metal and has tougher scratch and drop resistance. You can feel safe with its durability and be confident when you hold it in your hands. The main screen is premium Dynamic AMOLED 2X quality with HDR10+ support and 1750 nits peak brightness, 550 nits higher than the previous generation. There is a 12 MP main lens and a 12 MP ultrawide lens along with a 10 MP front facing camera. But as we have mentioned earlier, because of the fold facility, you can use all cameras for selfie taking or for flexible vlogging. These are no top-grade flagship cameras like in the Galaxy S23 Ultra, for example, but still very impressive. The dynamic range, color tones, brightness, clarity, details, portrait, night mode, video quality and stabilization everything looked very satisfactory and balanced to us. Not much to say about the performance with its 4 nm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset. You don’t have to worry about gaming, multitasking or performance, at all. Samsung promised 4 years of Android upgrade and 5 years of security patches. Android 13 is pre-installed with Samsung’s smooth One UI.
