Highlights
This Asus Rog Phone 8 Pro right here is a maximum gamer’s phone in 2024, almost perfect in all of its aspects. The regular 8 Pro has 16 GB RAM and 512 GB ROM. There is a 24 GB RAM, 1 TB ROM variant which is called “Rog Phone 8 Pro Edition”. At first glance, it may look a bit too flat. But that’s the style of a more professional gamer’s device. The previous Rog Phones had a bit of a child’s nostalgia touch. Now we got a whole new perspective, and it’s game on. The back part includes “AniMe Vision”. It’s a programmable mini-LED lighting with 341 LEDs. You can use custom texts, animations, use predefined or make it invisible depending on the mood or environment you want to carry this.
AirTrigger feature offers fingertip game control with a console-like usage. Various gestures can be used, e.g. Dual Action, Press and lift, and Gyroscope Aiming. An AeroActive Cooler is also included in the box for maximum cooling. The phone is IP68 water resistant, so using vents isn’t practical. Both sides of the device are protected by Gorilla Glasses and the frame is made of aluminum. We are getting a 6.78-inch Samsung Flexible AMOLED Full HD+ screen and we are surprised that Asus didn’t add any Quad HD+ or at least a 1.5K resolution screen. The lower resolution is a clear disadvantage for this price. But it will provide you with a longer battery backup. The 50+32+13 MP rear camera has a main 50 MP shooter with Sony IMX890 sensor. There is gimbal stabilization with it so, you’ll have extremely stable video recording for up to 8K resolution. Then there is a 32 MP telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom and a 13 MP ultrawide lens along with a 32 MP front facing / selfie camera. These are much improved cameras compared to the older ROG phones and you’ll have a subtle gamer’s vibe with its light adjustment and color tones, which we liked very much.
Its 5500 mAh battery is accompanied by a 65W charger (30W for Indian 16/512 GB variant). Charging time is about 39 minutes. Battery backup is for about a day for rough usage. Its “Edition” variant is arguably the most powerful smartphone of the world at the time of its release with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, 24 GB actual built-in RAM and a rapid UFS 4.0 1 TB storage. But the regular 16/512 GB model is more than enough as well. Besides the separated AeroActive Cooler (included in the box), GameCool 8 thermal structure with graphite sheet, vapor chamber, rapid cooling conductor, dual batteries and so on are also constructed. This is a rock solid performance right here and Asus made a zero compromise in terms of that. We got Hi-Res audio with dual stereo speakers and surprise surprise, a 3.5mm jack as well. But one shortcoming is that Asus promised just two further OS upgrades after the current Android 14 where most phones for this price will give you four upgrades. Still, it means three years of the latest Android from its release date and four years of security updates.
