Highlights
Asus did not disappoint at all with the Rog Phone 8 that comes as the successor of Rog Phone 7. In fact, it has progressed and merged quite a lot. It is now the kind of device that matches a full-on contemporary gamer’s style. You may think the previous generation Rog Phones looked more like a gaming device and this one looks a bit more flat and professional. Yes, we thought exactly the same thing, but then we figured out that’s specifically what we like about it. We don’t want a childish-looking gamer’s phone for adults. For children, there are hand-held gaming consoles and so many other options. Now we are getting a true pro gamer’s vibe here.
The back part includes a so-called Aura RGB (customizable with solid colors or pre-defined lighting patterns) and that’s very appealing. It shows off the power and processing capability of the device as well as a gamer’s spirit. Now that’s an authentic phone and when you are paying that much money, it should be no less than this. The design altogether is very much spot on, and we believe any gamer will be proud to carry a gadget like this. There are also pressure-sensitive gaming triggers as usual. There is Gorilla Glass protection on both sides with a metal frame and IP68 rated water resistant body. The screen is offering Full HD+ resolution and yes, it should be at least a higher 1.5K resolution. Here is a very clear downside to this device. But on the other hand, it is a big 6.78-inch size LTPO AMOLED screen with 165Hz refresh rate and HDR10 support, so it’s still considerable.
Camera isn’t its main specialty but both cameras (front and back) can still deliver pretty nice shots considering that this is a Rog phone and is gaming centric. We see a lot of improvement in the quality compared to the previous generation. We got a decent 32 MP telephoto and a 13 MP ultrawide lens, a main 50 MP primary lens and a 32 MP selfie taker. There is gimbal stabilization for up to 8K video recording with the primary camera. This is one step further than optical or Electronic Image stabilization (OIS/EIS). The footage would look extremely smooth and stable. The battery size is 5500 mAh with 65W charger and wireless charging facility. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset is included with a very advanced cooling system. Storage, RAM, Operating System are all up to the mark with a very clean Rog UI. There are stereo speakers with Hi-Res audio and we got a 3.5mm jack as well.
